ESC significantly reduces the number of road fatalities and injuries and makes an important contribution toward road safety. This is the conclusion drawn from numerous international studies undertaken by leading automobile manufacturers and safety authorities to assess the effectiveness of ESC.

Accidentology shows that at least 40 percent of all fatal road crashes are caused by skidding. ESC can reduce skidding by up to 80 percent of all skid crashes. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) had calculated that the standard equipment of ESC could save up to 9,600 lives and prevent as many as 238,000 injuries every year in the U.S. alone.
