Braking and steering with ABS

Even a short step on the brake pedal can be enough to lock the wheels. The vehicle can no longer respond to the steering inputs of the driver.

ABS keeps the vehicle steerable, so that obstacles that suddenly appear can be avoided even under full braking.

Wheel-speed sensors continually monitor all the wheels. If a wheel threatens to lock, ABS operates instantly to reduce the braking pressure at this wheel so that it does not come to a full stop. ABS carries out this control procedure simultaneously for each separate wheel. This electronic wheel slip control thus ensures the shortest possible braking distance, improves steering ability and increases the stability of the vehicle.
